Welcome to Istanbul City Portrait
The Università Iuav di Venezia – School of Doctorate Studies is organizing an International Conference about the city of Istanbul within a cycle of conferences on cultural and urban experiences around the world. The Conference will be held on February 29th – March 1st 2012.
The goal of the International Conference is to provide a wide range of point of view in order to investigate the current transformations of the city and to attempt a better understanding of its coming evolutions based on an interdisciplinary approach, which ranges from the urban planning to architecture, from arts to design and cultural policies.
In relation to this upcoming event, we have activated this online-platform with the aim to broader up the contributions, spread new researches and projects, connect people and stimulate new ideas.

Teresita Scalco is a PhD candidate in Museology of Design at the Univesità Iuav di Venezia, Italy.
In the framework of her doctoral research in the museum policy in Istanbul, she has been visiting graduate student at the Istanbul Bilgi University. Since 1999 she has been assistant curator at the Architectural and Design collections at the Univesity Art Museum in Santa Barbara (USA) and then at the Archivio progetti, Università Iuav di Venezia. She is board member of AAA-Italia (Italian Association of Architectural Archives).
Moira Valeri is an architect and PhD candidate at “Villard d’Honnecourt” International PhD Arch. Program at the Università Iuav di Venezia, Italy. Since 2001 she has been involved in international workshops and architecture exhibitions (as tutor, coordinator or curator). She mostly works around architecture and urban project issue in the contemporary city. Since 2010 she lives in Istanbul carrying on a research around the effects of the urban development along the turkish coast.
Marco Vani graduated in Economy and International Affairs, received his PhD in Urban Planning and Public Policy at the Università Iuav di Venezia, Italy. His research interests are public policy analysis, local administration and management. Between 2006 and 2008 he was junior analyst in two projects financed by the EU (Interreg IIIA MAhlDeNet, and Interact Cultplan). Since 2004 he has been consultant in Ervet spa, the Emilia-Romagna Regional Agency for Economic and Spatial Developement, focusing on public-private partnership and regional development policy.
